Program Notes
Sermon of the Dragon is a fixed-media ambisonics work that provides the sonic backdrop to a sermon on the book of Revelation and the end times. The composition aims to recreate the sense of uncertainty and dread that accompanied the teachings of the pastor the composer was subject to as a child.
As we traverse between the physical world, the mind, limbo, heaven, and hell, the space around us shifts between vast and ethereal, vacant and endless, and closed-off and restrictive. Enveloped by the imagery evoked from the scripture, we are unable to escape the fatalist landscape shaped by the religious ideology. The guiding voice moves around us, above us, and below us, to remind us that they are omnipresent.
