EDO stands for “equal division of the octave”, a tuning system that divides the octave into a whole number of steps. The tuning system most commonly used in Western music is 12-tone equal temperament (12-TET), sometimes referred to as 12-EDO. A tuning like 19-EDO splits the octave into 19 equal steps, adding 7 new notes: sharps and flats become distinct notes (D# no longer equals Eb), along with adding B# and E#. An octave can be split into any number of equal divisions, and EDO tunings are some of the more accessible microtonal tunings.

The Lumatone is a powerful MIDI controller that allows for microtonal tunings to be easily visualized and performed compared to a traditional keyboard.
